I ask my clients to stop eating about 3 hours before bedtime (and no, this does not mean staying up until 3:00am). Not only can a full belly have you tossing and turning all night with heartburn, etc... BUT night time is the right time for HEALING!
When we sleep our body does it's repair work. Our digestive system does a lot of work all day, during the night it needs to repair and rest. It is not supposed to work all night digesting all the wrong foods we ate right before bed.
Let's be honest, night eating can usually be full of wrong choices. Night time is when we let our guard down and eat things we'd never eat during our more self controlled daytime hours. So we hit the chips, or the ice cream and cookies and think to ourselves "tomorrow is another day!" Unfortunately, our blood sugar then skyrockets and then crashes causing a rough night's sleep and more importantly an unhealthy one. Our digestive system spends most of the night digesting instead of repairing which eventually causes health problems. Also, have you noticed that when you eat before going to bed your less likely to want to eat a good breakfast? We're supposed to wake up hungry and ready to eat, but do we? Statistics prove that those who eat a big breakfast are less likely to "night binge" and more likely to have and maintain a healthier weight.
